Leeks, Strawberries and Plum Trees.
« on: April 08, 2014, 23:22 »
Leeks.  I planted them in a pot and they are now about 4 inches in height long spindly things.  What do I do with them next?

Strawberry Plants.  I have a few from last year and have just planted a few more.  I know I have to protect them from birds with a net but what other forms of protection do I need?

Plum Tree.  Every year I find most of the Victoria plums have worms.  How can I protect them?

How crowded are they and are they indoors or outdoors at the moment?

Nothing.

See above.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Can't help with the plum tree - sorry. See many other threads on here re- leeks including my posts with what I do, but they sound just like many others on here. As long as they are getting sufficient light, they should be ok. As for strawbs, you can put straw under the plant leaves and fruits (not right up against the main stems though) - this will lift the fruit off the soil and prevent it getting splashed with water. A few slug pellets will also help (if you use them).

I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Many thanks for that.  The Leeks are fairly crowded.  A neighbour said I should trim the tops off with a pair of scissors and then just plant them out but they look very thin.

I would only do that when you plant them out at pencil-thickness in June/July, so pot-on and leave them to grow more leaves.
