My husband used to shoot for farmers and anyone really that had a problem some years back. He would renew his gun licences tomorrow if foxy came after our hens!! After The devastation he's seen caused by foxs he reckons a dead Fox is the only decent fox around.
A chicken mad addict currently owned by 12 lovely hybrid hens, 1 large allotment growing lots of  fruit and veg

Good man, some people dont really understand what its like to find their hens scattered around after a fox has come calling

But culling is done in a better fashion and for a reason, rather than just killing for the sake of killing as a fox will do

I cant understand why people feed these vermin, they will be feeding the rats next
It's all about the journey, not the destination

When the council has been contacted about culling the foxes, they say if they cull them, other foxes will move in, I said the only reason the foxes are here because of the waste food bins you have given people, they put them out at night instead of the morning, of course the foxes will come during the night, eat and scatter the food, then the rats come and eat the food that is lying around

Even the rubbish skips (which had lids) are raked out, the bin men removed the lids so they are easier to empty

With the councils attitude, the population of foxes and rats can only escalate, more so if they dont collect these bins (which arent even sealed bins)

Mean while I shoot foxes that enter my garden, 4 tails and counting  :)

As a chicken keeper myself, I understand your dislike of foxes, but please bear in mind that some people find the idea of shooting them upsetting  :)

Its also taking the thread off topic from the original question, which was about culling poultry and preparing it for eating  :)

Yes, very true, I know it is off topic, but its just chatting really  :)

But we can get back on topic  :)

its not just culling, but gutting and plucking  :)

Have you seen this thread from bodger in the FAQ bit of the poultry forum pepsi ?

Warning to other members reading this, the link contains images of butchery, so don't open it if you don't like to see such things  :)

Just be careful cutting round the vent do not pierce the guts with the knife as it will contaminate the bird.
