growing garlic and onions in pots?

Can you please advise will this work i have some garlic in 3 litre pots and some in 4 litre black plastic bags

I should think so, depends, how many you put in there. Do not overcrowd.

They might well need some feeding.

Too few?? 1 in a 3lt pot is just about ok.. they are gross feeders and would be crouded with more in that or a 4lt. 
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

But I did say you need to prepare the ground first.. so no feeding required after planting.. !!

Are we talking about garlic or onions here (or both, as per thread title?)

Garlic is usually spaced at around 4-6", and apart from needing to pay more attention to watering and feeding I don't see why growing it in pots should make much difference to that.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
