« on: April 02, 2014, 21:19 »
last autumn we had a daddy long leg invasions in rural wales

and of course we are now suffering with the pesky grubs of the stupid flying insect

keep loosing seedlings - dig it up and a fat grub is 99% the culprit for seedlings demise

any ideas on treatments for this nuisance ? as far as I know there aren't any ( well besides my chooks )

Are they chewing through the bottom of the seedlings stem? If so, I had a nightmare with this last year and found putting a small wooden twig flush to the stem stopped them. I ended up buying a huge bag of matchstick from art shop which did the job perfectly.

I have come across this before but forget the theory. Do they break their teeth?

I thought it was normal (our first year here). This year there don't seem to be quite as many as I saw last year. So far managed to avoid any damage by sowing indoors.
