Lettuce

If I was to grow lettuce in containers, what is the minimum depth I could get away with.
I have seen them grown in guttering in a magazine, but my peas are in there!
I just want the convenience of having a few lettuces at home, and have plenty of plastic boxes etc lurking around

useful stuff like that never gets thrown out around here, either that or there's an active group of allotmenteers wombling the stuff before I see it.

I do lettuce in guttering too

From last year. This year we have more cress, lettuce and alpine strawberries in ours.
