Are these Elderberries ?

I assume you sieve out the seeds in your wine. However, eating the berries would mean eating the seeds which, as that citation says, contains a resin which is a nauseant and diuretic so eating too many of them would give you the runs or make you not feel well. Which makes it on par for "poisonious" like rhubarb leaves, where the Lethal Dose of rhubarb leaves would be in the few hundred pounds of leaves range but a much smaller amount will make you ill to your stomach.

Actually, eating too much of any fruit tends to give you the runs.

That link you gave said you can rub the elder leaves onto your skin and it acts as an insect repellent. Makes you smell though appaerently :?
