Along with growing, home-brew, jams and food drying, taking photos properly is something I wish I'd started years ago!
I couldn't agree more! The more you learn about it the more you realize how much you don't know! Digital is great, but I'm also really interested in film. I have two cameras that belonged to my grandmother, an argoflex seventy-five and a polaroid land camera. The first was manufactured in the 1940's and the second in the early 1960. The second is still in working condition thanks to a new battery and new film. 620 film is no longer produced, but 120 film is and it can be respooled to fit a 620 spool. (Just a matter of getting the metal spools from ebay) Some places sell it respooled, but you pay a premium for it.
For my birthday my neighbor gifted me two of her old box cameras...and I mean old, the camera not her lol. She's in her seventies and one of them belonged to her mother. I hope to get them cleaned and make sure they're functional . One of them takes 120film, I can't recall what the other takes but it's no longer in production. Still it will be really cool to resurrect them!
I love how photography has changed my perception of the mundane. I got caught in a downpour at a park know for it's waterlilies and lotuses but instead of running for cover I simply opened my umbrella and kept shooting. Got one of my favorite shots that day!
I recently decided to try my hand at street photography. That will take getting used to (especially considering I don't like crowds...or people😜. Right now I'm really interested in landscape photography (oh darn, I shall have to buy another lens!)
I know you mentioned shooting with the intent to photograph people/weddings, but don't forget to experiment...
Astrophotography
Macro (giggle reversed lens technique)
Light painting
Infrared photography
Wildlife
Landscape
Street (know the laws for your country first)
Food (that actually is a genre lol)
Long exposure photography-really neat
The list just goes on and on!
