Introducing a 'friend' ! ?
« on: March 11, 2014, 19:18 »
sorry, it's me again.
Feeling sorry for Lydia on her own I agreed to rescue a little bantam from someone who says she's not getting on with her 3. She's quite timid .
Any advice would be welcome or have I been foolhardy?
I left her in the cat basket so Lydia could see her but all Lydia does is make a squarking noise similar to when she wants to lay an egg and can't get to the nest box. Eventually she went to roost so I let Fleur (the newbie) in but Lydia started squarking again. For now she's in the cat basket in the run part. Normally my lot free range.
How long should I try  etc?

Can be advisable to ensure more than one feeding and drinking station. Things will settle down :)

The new bantam Fleur is VERY timid, I kept them seperate to feed but let them loose in the garden.  periodically Lydia would seek her out and harass her but luckily Fleur can get into smaller gaps. I seperated them again this afternoon while I was out but have put them to bed together.#Lydia was in the nest box on Fleur so have put her on the perch and given Fleur a plastic pot to hide behind.
Round 2 tomorrow ! Unfortunately I have to be out so not sure how to leave them.  ::)
If Fleur stays in the run and Lydia freeranges at least they can see each other, will she do much damage if I let them out together?
It's worse than bringing up kids :nowink:

Free range is good as it gives them space and allows the bullied hen space to keep away. :)
