The risk is the disturbance to the raspberry roots from the harvesting, and competition for nutrients / water.

That being said, beetroots aren't that big so it might be worth a try.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Here's my raspberry bed, I weeded & mulched it on Sunday, just trying to upload a photo from my iPad.

That works then, now wonder if I can do it again

Very nice  :)

Is that plastic lawn edging around the bed?  I used some of that on my lotty a while back; it does alright for a year or three, but prepare for it to become brittle with exposure to the sunlight over time.

Yes it is. I've used it before & it was left over so thought I'd use it up. I just need to get the supports up now.

Hmm interesting as only yesterday I was wondering whether to plant some spare daffodil & tulip bulbs that I had forgotten about around my raspberries.

My neighbour does this.

What about everlasting sweet peas nitrogen fixing? I might stick in a few nastursiums sounds good.

I find the blackbirds strew the mulch all over so I thought I'd try the plastic edging before investing in some thing more substantial, perhaps log roll I thought.

I'd have reservations about flowering plants as their nutrient demands are greater and roots are likely to go deeper, particularly the perennial sweet peas.  Any competition isn't great for raspberries, but the reason the spring bulbs should be OK is that they have their own nutrients within the bulbs, and are over before the raspberries start competing.
