Taking the flowers off strawberries?
« on: March 08, 2014, 14:02 »
Hi

Bob Flowerdew said on GQT yesterday that first year strawberries should have their flowers removed to get a better crop the following years.

Anyone disagree?  I hope so cos I want a crop this year...

;-)

I didn't and the following year I was still drowning in good sized strawberries.

While year one strawberries aren't that impressive compared to year two, they're still better than nothing ;)

Bob Flowerdew tends to know what he's talking about, with decades of experience debunking random myths  :)

Most plants prefer to get their roots and strength established in the first year or so after planting; just look at rhubarb and asparagus for two.  If that's what he advises, I'd go along with it (at least in part)  ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
