Taking the flowers off strawberries?

Bob Flowerdew said on GQT yesterday that first year strawberries should have their flowers removed to get a better crop the following years.

Anyone disagree?  I hope so cos I want a crop this year...

Most plants prefer to get their roots and strength established in the first year or so after planting; just look at rhubarb and asparagus for two.  If that's what he advises, I'd go along with it (at least in part)
