Any recommendations as to the best flavor, and I am growing outside

Black Russian....quite sharp and acidic and a real treat if you're used to shop-bought tomatoes. Tbh there are so many great old varieties out there you could pick any and just try them. Suppliers like Real Seeds and Nicky's Nursery have excellent selections.

So far they have been the best tasting tomatoes so far in combination with consistent crops.

That said I am limited to short seasons being all up north and all. But they both grow well outside.
