I saved seeds from a shop brought super market pepper and chucked loads in a seed tray thinking I might get lucky with 1 germination - no special treatment given

to my amazement they all germinated !!!! I had about 40 seedlings  :D so I potted them on and donated them to my local dog rescue plant stool , think they sold for about 50p each  :D

Started mine around the beginning of this month. They're all snug with a heat mat and a cheapo grow light I picked up last year, definitely glad I got it; though we'll see if cheap still means leggy :)

Mine are germinating now -- sown on 10th -- so I am very pleased. About ten up so far, including the new King of The North peppers, which I have high hopes for  :D

Thanks for all of the replys :)
I have put some cling film over the seed tray and placed it on a windowsill in my kitchen that has a radiator underneath.
I got a bit desperate and ran out and bought 4x Pepper seedling plants as a backup plan! But I hope my seeds sprout :)

I put mine in a propagator in my airing cupboard. They seem to come up really fast using that method as it's nice and warm in there. All came up in less than a week.

I sowed tomatoes chillies and peppers at the same time and put them in a propagator at 22 degrees.  The tomatoes and chillies are up and just starting with their first true leaves and will soon be potted on.  The peppers are only just starting to germinate.  So I reckon its only a bit more time thats needed

My first tray of 6 varieties are now out onto the windowsill and all look good!!!  There's a mirror behind them for reflected light.

Next tray sown today and into the propagator...I've sown some basil too.

We are in Spain, aren't we??????

Mine will be on the windowsill with a tin foil reflector.  Just keep regularly pinching the tops out adri.  It makes the plants compact and multi-branched.  The more branches, the more fruit they produce  ;)  :)

totally agree thats just what we do and with toms as well after watching a guy in the usa on YouTube called praxis

It's all about heat and humidity for quick germination. If you can get soil temp of between 25-28 degrees, and provide a humid atmosphere(covered in a piece of glass, or propagator lid) you will get more even germination, and quicker too.

Totty

Hello Totty,
I followed your advice and I sprayed a mist onto a sheet of clingfilm which I placed over the seed tray. With the heat from the radiator to help create warmth and humid conditions and lo and behold, seedlings!!!
I'm so happy to finally see the little seedlings pop their heads up out of the soil.

Thank you for the advice and also to everybody else who responded to this thread :)
Caroline.
