Evening All,
Has anyone planted out there shallots yet?
l have bought some Golden Gourmet and can't wait to get them in, but this weather

Nope. I might see if the beds have drained enough to plant them out this weekend. Same for the onion sets.

Mine would have sprouted out by then, even if I keep them in the cold. I like to get them in ASAP after purchase.

I have all mine in pots in the GH - doing really well. They will go out as and when it dries up a bit. My plot is not flooded so will be ok any time soon if the rain stops falling

Mine are in pots and fibre pots in gh too. Gives them a bit of a start till ground conditions improve

l was thinking about leaving them till a bit later as the lotty at the mo has lots of pools on it and with the rain thats due in the next few days will soon become a lake l fear.
like the idea of starting them off in the GH at least they can get a head start, rather than take a chance on them drowning or even floating away

mine have been in a couple of weeks in a raised bed not doing great but had so many and got plenty left if they fail

I bought some sets yesterday - Longor, Golden Gourmet and Red Sun - and am hoping it is dry enough to get them planted this weekend.

All mine are in pots in the greenhouse. I like to get them going well before being planted out relatively early.

Me neither. I was thinking of doing it sometime soon though. It gets confusing when you read on the seed packets to sow in May!

Yep, they are now nice and cosy snuggled in pots in the GH.

Snoop & Muls, If you plant the seed this year dose that mean that you only get single shallots this year
or will they divide?

I grew Ambition shallots from seed one year. Within the outer papery skin, quite a few had developed three shallots, each with their own skin. My other shallots from seed have all made single shallots. To be honest, I don't mind them being separate - it makes them easier to dry for storage.

Someone on another thread mentioned they had great success sowing three shallot seeds in a module and then planting out the modules (still with the three seedlings, i.e. not pricked out) at 15 cm apart. This is what I'm proposing to do.
