Annoyed at Fothergills!
« on: January 18, 2014, 14:39 »
My seed pots arrived today and 2 out of the 4 varieties I ordered 'were not available' and so were substituted. The only reason I went with them was because they were one of the few stockists who had all 4 varieties in :(

Best look the replacements up and see what type of pots they are!

How annoying, do they give you the option of refusing sustitutions?

Well they've turned up now so a bit late! I probably could send them back but as the varieties I wanted are slightly more unusual then it is likely that everywhere else will have sold out :(

Tell them what you think of their service!

Best advice is always to mark the order NO SUBSTITUTES - at least you get to choose if substitutions have to be made.

Thanks for that. I will definitely look at them next year. Sadly they don't have one of the varieties either so I am just going to have to accept I will be having no purple majesty this year!

I buy from JBA, and they have been very reliable. Mind you, I do order in Oct/Nov as soon as their list is out

I think that's what I will have to do next year. I ordered in early Dec but I think there must have been a problem with those varieties this year as everyone seemed to have very low stocks :(

I'm going to a potato day next Sunday, happy to look out for some for you if you like. It's one of the varieties that Pennards stocks so I think it will probably be available.

After DD very kindly picked up some Ambo for me it would be good to be able to pass on the favour.

If you're interested pm me with what you'd like  :)

Thanks for the offer tangojulie - very thoughtful. Now I have been given these others I don't think I will have the space for more

I have only recently heard of these potato days so I think I will look into ones in my area for next year

That is really annoying and happened to me last year but not with Fothergills. It isn't all bad news though because the variety I was sent turned out to be a really prolific and great tasting spud that I have ordered deliberately this year and I would never have tried that spud given a free choice and the scores of varieties out there.
It was the best potato I grew last year and came as a great surprise as all my other spuds did really well too.

You must be near Enfield, so if i were you i would go to The Clockhouse nursery in Forty Hill. They have a huge variety and all from JBA. Bonus is you save the P&P charges.

Enfield is about 40 mins from me and I know the nursery well. I think I may have to pay it a visit next year!
