Is it possible to grow Garlic in large containers.  i'm slowly running out of room on my allotment so this maybe my only option.

How deep would the container need to be ?

Perfectly possible.  I grew garlic in pots before I got my allotment. I used various depths and all were ok. As long as the pots are about 5ins deep minimum, you should be fine.
