Watered the plot and polytunnel. Then filled up the waterbutts.

I've been in work all day, but Nix spent the morning down the plot.

She's planted two dozen leeks (Musselburgh) and two more rows of Beetroot - one of Burpees Golden and one of Chioggia.

As well as another tom plant that was found hiding in the greenhouse.

Planted a whole bed of leeks out.  Trimmed hedge and dug out weeds underneath.  Weeded. Watered.  Picked lettuce, pathetic beetroot (v small) and some overwintered onions that are ready.

What?! Has nobody else but me been working on their plot today? I'm surprised at you all, on a lovely day like today!

Dug up another split onion, which is very annoying.
Also pulled all my garlic, it has a bad dose of rust and I left it for a while but it has just got worse  with the leaves all shrivelled. The bulbs seem okay, not the biggest bulbs I ever had, but usable.

I spent all day trying to dig out the root ball of an ash tree. Im 3 foot down and have been pounding at the roots with the mattock most of the day. It has been anything but lovely  Over the years I've done this so many times I've lost count, but this one might actually beat me.

I forget to post here now I have my diary!! :D

I dug over and weeded the 'long bed' and planted out 4 tomatoes to trial outdoor toms and transplanted a load of lettuce seedlings and thoroughly watered everything first thing :)
Oh and I planted out a couple of more squashes - not very successful with these this year. :(

Hi Annen, I think we were too exhausted to post earlier.   More hedge trimming.  Made some comfrey tea.   Planted out various left over plants and celeriac (ever hopeful) in spare spaces.  Watered.  Weeded.  Tied up the climbing peas.  OH levelled paths and did lots of soil sifting.  Picked a lettuce.

On a slightly different note, whilst trimming hedge found some illicit drugs hidden in the hedge.   Makes a change from a wasp nest that a neighbour trimmed through last weekend.  Third similar find in a matter of weeks.  Presumably left behind by our nocturnal plot visitors.  Disposed of same and reported to our local PCSO.   You shouldn't have to deal with that on the plot, should you?

Made a frame for the 4 gherkin plants to grow up, planted the 3extra pumpkin plants I bought on Friday when trying to get butternut squash plants ???, planted  2litre bottles next to same plus all the sweet corn & 2 ornamental gourds. Watered all the same plus the tomatoes. That was on the first visit this morning. Then back again after dinner with hubby, he watered all the climbing beans, chard beetroot& peas. I watered the raspberries, picked them & 3lbs of goosegogs.

Lifted all the Garlic as the rust had taken over.     The bulbs are OK but not huge should have been left until mid/late August.      The variety was Marco does anyone know if this variety is prone to rust or was it just the mild Winter?

Watered and planted out the last of the Brassicas.
Do you really need al that lettuce/

Early rise to water the spuds and keep the nematodes alive. Am keeping a close eye on the leaves as everyone else on site uses a hose to water theirs and they tend to create their own Smith periods... ::) Also stuck in some replacement achocha and noticed that the salsify, which is supposed to be a slow germinator, is already up in the tub.

I grew Marco last year and they were fine, but this year they were smothered in rust. I would think it's just the mild winter followed by the strange weather we had this spring.

Just back from a couple of hours on plot 33, de-runnering 1st year Strawberry plants, and potting runners from older ones. Too hot out there now, so will be back later for work on plot 29.

... but this one might actually beat me.

It put up a good fight for 3 days but in the end I always win  :D

That's now cleared the patch in front of the chicken run, I think I should be able to get 3-4 rhubarb plants along the fence line where I've removed the tree from.   :)
