A really nice morning . In between chatting to fellow allotment neighbours actually did some work. Emptied one compost bin and mulched around soft fruits and asparagus bed. Thinned carrots in tubs and put fleece around to   prevent carrot fly. Fed dwarf beans and weeded amongst Red Cabbage . Wife popped in so had a tour of the plot to show her I have'nt been skiving these past few weeks.

Spent couple of hours this morning weeding area for 4 courgettes, 2 yellow 2 green and my pumpkins, 6 of them. Will put them in next week with sweetcorn so hoping for dry week!
Weeded between onions. Gave up on no show carrots so dug it over and sowed turnip and beetroot seeds.
Still have more to plant/sew but running out of space as only half plot. Have fruit tree to dig up as covered with brambles so will have more space then. x

Planted out spaghetti squash and courgettes.  Helped the climbing and runner beans to wind round the poles.  They seem to have got away nicely.  Sowed two sorts of kale- dwarf curly and tuscan black.  Sowed runners and climbers for second planting later.  Harvested a nice crop of broad beans and some lovely large onions.  Weeded everything and had a beer.  Fed the greenhouse plants- tomatoes cucumbers and chillies.

Put a wire up in the shed to hang the tomato plants on, while it rained and rained.
Discovered where the leaks in the new shed were.
Organised a cane storage system, well, 2 loops of wire hanging from eyelets screwed into the back of the shed.
Too wet to do anything else, plodged through new-made streams on the way home.
Our strawberries are still green, way off being ready to eat.

Potted on some asparagus, planted out the pumpkins. Staked the corners of the beds on plot 29, so we know where they will be, and then started the mammoth job of weedkilling.

Planted cucumber bought in France against some trellis attached to the side of the Munty frame.  Never grown one of those before.  Hope I get a cucumber!

So far, watering, removing scapes from the garlic, picking flowers off the potatoes and worrying about the crispy bits starting to appear on some of the leaves, and picking a lettuce that has gone to seed for the chickens and some cherries for us.

Later, transplanting some tomatoes and planting out some Sonesta French beans.

I'm taking a weeding holiday today.

Weed Weed Weed!

I put some french beans in as well and I weeded the final strawberry bed (as you can see from the pic taken halfway through, it was hard going). I tried to take some panoramic shots with my phone but essentially the space just ends up looking like a banana.

Also we've had a new queen delivered for the hive woohoo!, (hive is just to the top of the 3rd pic), so hopefully there's a good honey crop this year

Strawberries i am doing: Cambridge Favourite, Elsanta and Flamenco, so I am hoping to get a constant crop. Anyone any other strawberry suggestions?, to be honest i dont know much about the different varieties.

Hoed up my carrot and parsnip seedlings. Germination too sparse to make them worth bothering with. I will plant my leeks there instead.

Planted out the courgettes and the gherkins  :) , scattered liberal quantities of slug pellets to defend them against the hordes scenting fresh meat. >:(
I notice there are still no pods on the broad beans even though they are covered in flowers.
