Having been a seedaholic for a while I had a massive cathartic moment recently.  I went through my seed boxes (three of them!) and I threw out everything that was opened and everything that was out of date.  Very good feeling.  Starting over.

I can understand trowing out out of date seeds as they may not germinate but to throw seeds away might be a crime around here!!

I treat seeds like books.   Never throw them out unless they are no use.  Plant them or give them to someone else.   There is always a collector of seeds somewhere nearby!

One of my favourite winter jobs is to sort the seeds out and make a start on a plan  :D  This may be a Christmas treat rather than spend time watching rubbish on the TV  ;)

I don't pay much mind to best before dates on most seeds.  I know some won't keep, but its always worth a germination test on some kitchen paper.  I admit this approach is no use to those approaching seed box saturation point though ;)

If you have overs, you can always join in our other winter seedaholic pursuit of seed swapping on the forum.   Actually that doesn't help either does it   Just give in a buy another seedbox  ;)

Go straight to Jail - do not pass go and retrieve your seeds from the bin on your way.  :D  :D
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

Trouble is I don't want to get better

Me either - though I have enough seeds to plant up 2 allotments, not the one that I have! OH is giving me 2 days-worth of hard labour at the plot for my Christmas present, so I will have more prepared space to stick them in the ground.  :D

:D  That represents 50% more time at the plot than he spent in 2013. Usually he only visits to take pictures/pick stuff whether or not it's ready/hang around smoking and looking bored.
