« on: December 09, 2013, 20:13 »
I have a huge bucket full of oca i want to store most of them to fill a big space for next year. last year I spread them out on newspaper in mushroom trays. Some are really tiny would they be better in a bucket of compost and can i store the others ontop of on another or must i spread them out.

I would like an answer to the above question too! :D

Got to the plot and the leaves were mush! Loads of tubers though. ;)

They seem to store well enough without being in compost of any kind.

I set some aside last year to replant and accidentally left them in an empty old flowerpot under the greenhouse staging. Found them about March (after panicking that we had eaten all of them and so I had none left - got some nice red ones from a kindly forum member.

They grew very well, but so did the slightly dusty looking sprouting ones.

I can see they would make a useful permanent planting, as provided those left in/replanted are deep down enough not to freeze, and the new top growth does not get frosted off, they would flourish

I could dig them up and replant them in the same area. i was thinking of covering the really tiny ones with soil.

Even the really tiny ones managed without nay covering, but it won't hurt them to be buried..

I had a few 'volunteers' so they are a very forgiving crop  8)

i had a few volunteers from home where they grew last year, that's what made me think of a perminant area for them.

I'd never heard of this before reading this thread. Is it easy to grow? Is it tasty? Sorry for asking off-thread questions.

I would split the stash up, store some in a tub with compost (I'm doing this with JAs at the mo for eating)
some in a cold spot indoors and some in a rodent free spot in the shed
