garlic query
« on: December 08, 2013, 00:09 »
I sowed about 40 cloves of garlic in October into 3" pots and they now have a few inches growth and their roots are now coming out the bottom of the pot. Their bed isn't ready to plant in yet and I don't have enough larger pots to put them on. Now the weather has turned will they be doing much more growing or do I need to get a move on and get the beds ready?

Thanks

Best to get a move on as the roots will grow in all but the very coldest weather.

I dont think there's too much rush -  Last year I did the same as you DMG and planted them into their beds on boxing day I recall... The roots were really grown strong and well when I planted them out..

It was the best garlic I've ever grown.

Thanks for the replies,
The are supposed to go into the baths that I have but the strawberries are still there just now, I have large 30l pots which are about 18" across how many garlic can I get in per pot?

I'd say no more than 4-5 as 30 l is not a lot of compost to feed them.

I have had garlic still pushing its way up through the snow, so it will grow in virtually any weather.
