I'm dreading it - we are in South Wales and we are going to get the brunt of it along with the South. Where my hens are is in woodland and we spent most of yesterday cutting regen Ash and Black Alder down that even looked slightly suspect. The coop is next to a massive Copper Beech but my husband (he's an arborist) says it is solid and the spread low enough not to be affected too much by the weather.

Fingers crossed all stays well

We have tied rope round solway smart house and staked to ground to add bit more 'weight' to house. Hope the 3 girlies already roosting in tree stay safe, hold tight and tree stays up. FINGERS CROSSED!
loads tall trees around.

Well I think I have suffered the first damage from the storm even before it has arrived!!!     I was clearing things out of the way that were likely to blow over and managed to bump the garden chairs in to the garage wall which sent me sideways.   ::)  Cut and bruised but luckily not in view of anyone.

I think my birds know there is a storm coming, especially my quail as they were trying to fly today and seemed quite spooked.

Our garden sounds like yours joolz, do be careful especially if you have any wood, we have some railway sleepers and they can be a nightmare in the wet weather.   ;)

How is your land holding up with all the wet weather Sassy?

Thankyou for asking ANBHUC. No problems so far. we were on flood alert last week but that happens regularly. After the flooding last year (first time in living memory (87 years) in our exact location) the Environment agency have realised, finally, that the flood alert for our area is not fit for purpose and are looking at it - it is over a year now though. Although we are on clay our flooding was caused by a breach in the flood bank although the bank did overtop eventually anyway, but less water may have got through without the breach! I am not replacing my birds until they have repaired the breach, hopefully by Spring 2014!

How are you southerners getting on? It doesn't look as though it has been ideal for you? Hope everyones fine anyway :)

Well, it was a bit of an anticlimax where I was, just had 2 buckets blown arounf in the garden and my jamine bush blown away from the fence

But the chooks arent hapy with the mud now, I cant even dig it over for them, its too wet and sticky  >:(

Just need a couple of dry days now (if the wind keeps up that will help dry it out though
It's all about the journey, not the destination

I'm glad that you have not had any further flooding since last year Sassy, I hope they fix the flood defences soon so you can get some birds again.

I hope everyone in the affected areas are alright.   :)

ANHBUC, it's strange you should say that - mine are usually in their coop by the time I go to put them to bed but last night they would not go in. anyway, all survived safe and sound! Phew!!!!

sorry to hear about your accident = sounded painful!

It must be in their instinct to find somewhere they think is safe.

I'm just a little sore but no major damage apart from a bit of dented pride.   ::)

which just goes to show that sometimes the fall comes before the pride! Sorry but I couldn't resist. Seriously though, hope you're ok. :)
