How long does it take for a heap of fresh cattle manure to take before its 'well rotted' and can be used?

Usual advice is a year,but you can speed it up by turning the heap which helps to re-heat the heap.Somebody will be along to tell you technical side of why that is,to do with anaerobic/aerobic.

I spread mine on the top of unused beds, cover with weed membrane and leave for the worms to pull it down. Any left on top in the spring gets forked in. Not everyone agrees with this though.
