Gardeners Delight: Yield 9 - Taste 7

Late starter with these, started them off outside then moved into the GH. Very impressed with the yield but not so much with the taste, they are not as sweet as I like, very tangy. But great for frying up or on a cheese and potato pie etc.

I grew a new one this year Sparta F1also Shirley which is very much the same both good doers in the green house and for tumblers I grew Garden Pearl a freebie from one of the mags, lovely flavour and very prolific. Next year I'm going to try a beefeater I make a lot of home made soup I was thinking these may be better for it

Yellow Pear: Yield 10 (can't believe how many toms came off 3 plants), Taste 6 (although when made into soup I'd give them an
Black Krim: Yield 6, Taste 9
Harbinger: Yield 8 Taste 7
Garden Perle: Yield 8, Taste 9

Beefsteak-
Black Prince- Yeild-5  Taste-8 (strong plants, a little untidy in habit, some very large)
Mortgage Lifter- Yeild-4 Taste-8 (late to ripen, excellent flavour)
Purple Beefsteak- Yeild-5 Taste-8 (almost identical to Black Prince in habit and flavour)
Pink Brandywine- Yeild-6 Taste-9 (best of the beefsteaks by far. Amazing flavour this year)
Mediums-
Cedrico- Yeild-6 Flavour-4 (perfect quality for showbench early on. Poor flavour and desiese resistance. Dropped for next year)
Shirley- Yeild-8 Flavour-7 (strong growth, good yields and flavour, dependable year on year)
Goldstar- Yeild-7 Flavour-9 (perfect showbench quality, tidy plants, thin skinned with very good flavour)
Dometica- Yeild-8 Flavour-9 (best medium this year, very upright tidy plants, perfect quality, excellent flavour)

Plum
Shirley's crystal plumb- Yeild-5 Flavour-7 (decent plumb with tidy growth, late to ripen, large fruit)
Roma- Yeild-7 Flavour-7 (perfect for sauces, but very untidy plants, too time consuming, dropped for next year)

Small/cherry
Sungold- Yeild-8 Flavour 7 (was first to crop, too keen to split skins, too many tiny fruits, dropped for next year)
Sakura- Yeild-9 Flavour 10 (best overall for me this year. Amazing flavour, growth habit and Yeild. Recommended)
Flamingo- Yeild-6 Flavour 8 (unusual pink fruit, untidy for a cordon, decent flavour
Derby Striped- Yeild-8 Flavour-6 (unusual striped fruit, better than tigrella)
Tomatoberry Grande- Yeild-9 Flavour-9 (lovely flavour, tidy plants,very attractive fruits in abundance.Recommended)

These were all grown in a greenhouse, between 5 and 8 of each plant. In well enriched borders. Upto 9 trusses when they were stopped. Best tomato year ever this year.

Purple Cherokee 11 out of 10  never grown these before but for a beef steak it is large and flavoursome even when green and fried (some were heavy and fell off in the wind so,  waste not etc  YUM great for a brunch with bacon and eggs

garden pearl - yield 9 - flavour 0 (was very disappointed in these) grown on allotment with halos

I grew 9 different types of tomatoes in pots at home but some how I mixed all the labels up! the beef stake types were lovely but I got very few ripe ones.

German orange strawberry - yield 3 - flavour 7

I tried "G12 F1" from Johnsons, they were superb. yield, 10, taste 9.Will be planting some more next year.

Ailsa Craig yield 7 tatse 8

All grown in an unheated tunnel in clay soil with comfrey mulch.

Aranyalma.     Yield 5.  Taste 9.  Yield may have more to do with Verve growbag i put them in than variety.
                      Small thin skinned yellow variety from Heritage Seed Library.
Golden Grape.  Yield 7. Taste 8.  A very small yellow type from HSL.
Essex Wonder.   Yield 9.  Taste 6 fresh and 9 cooked.
Cuban Flower.   Yield 8.  Taste 6.   Huge beefsteak.   Not many tomatoes but they weighed a lot.
Lima Korai.       Yield 9.  Taste 7.
Principe Borghese.   Yield 4.  Taste 8 (cooked).
Candlelight.       Yield 8.  Taste 8.   F1 hybrid i bought in Japan.

All grow outside in large pots apart from Aranyalma and one of the 2 Principe Borgheses.   Those in the growbags did less well in terms of yield.

Oh and I forgot Sungold, which i grew at my parents in Levington's growbags there.

Sungold.   Yield 9.   Taste 9.

Moneymaker: yield 8, flavour 7
Tigrella: yield 10, flavour 9
San Marzano: yield 8, flavour 7.

I may seem to have rated Moneymaker high for taste, but bear in mind, I save my own seed from the very best fruits each year in order to try to keep a higher standard than taking pot luck with bought seed. This may be a factor.

gardeners delight: Yield 9, Flavour 8  Reliable as always
tigerella: Yield 7, Flavour 8  Good for sandwiches but inclined to rot on the vine
Roma: Yield 7, Flavour 8  Good cooker, but suffered most from pests and blossom end rot
Red Alert: Yield 10, Flavour 7 Early, reliable but not a stunning flavour

Can you split by growing types?  I'm looking for a good one for hanging baskets next year
