unripe spaghetti squash
« on: September 29, 2013, 11:23 »
The plant is definitely dead and Im left with about a dozen fruit still a pale green colour, The stems aren't looking too good so I don't want to leave them attached much longer - can they be ripened off plant ?

sunny windowledge is their only option then  ;)

Doesn't work 100%, it depends on how near they were to turning ripe before you picked them - the longer you keep them the better they should taste.

I haven't picked any yet MoS and it's the first year I've grown them so I have nothing to compare to.

Would they do better inside the house or in the greenhouse on staging until the temperatures drop ?

Mine are pale green in colour all the way through growth to picking.  When they are about 20cm long they are ready to pick.  They have been absolutely delicious this year.

greenhouse staging would be good, I don't suppose it's going to get too hot and cook them at this time of year  ::)

Change of plan - the botrytis is going mad in the greenhouse  :( so I've brought them back in doors. All I have to do now is find some space for them.   Unless they taste devilishly good I'll be using the space for something else next year. Not sure if this was a good yield or not ? 4 plants , 13 fruit with the largest being 3.5Kgs
