Hi Grinling, are you sure you want to end this tree's life  If you have any other apple trees around a crab apple is by far the best pollinator for any apple tree.  :)

And they make an amaaaaazing Chili and Crab Apple jelly, which is absolutely lovely with loads of things! We haven't got many proper crabs near us (just wild apples) - I found a tree in a park and made 6 jars. I'm hanging on to these as we (well, wifey) gave most of ours away last year!

I think, to the contrary, that it is crab apple. :D

Indeed a good pollinator, but if you need the space and do not want the fruit, any within a 500-1000 meter radius will do.

Oh, doohs. Not much to say or do, unless, you could convince them about free fruit for no effort.

Also, as kids love trees. Shade and fruit and climbing, you can hang up a swing, a hammock. Each to their own though.

Imagine an L shaped garden with a big arch in the middle. now see the wasps on the various fruit. youngest child,3, nearly got stung picking an apple. trees will be providing heat next year for her and me.
There are 3 apples in the borders, but they haven't been trimmed in over 5 years.
