Has the cabbage white butterfly gone for the season?
« on: September 11, 2013, 20:34 »
I've protected my brassicas from the cw butterfly all summer. I don;t see many around now. Do you think i could remove the net safely?  We don't suffer with pidgeons much round here.
Liv.

We don't suffer with pidgeons much round here.

It will only take one visit to decimate them :(

I swap fine Cabbage White Butterfly netting (I use scaffolders debris netting) for bird netting at some time after last Butterfly and before first snowfall, as the weight of snow tends to collapse the finer netting, but fall through the bird netting.

They are still here in deepest and darkest Derbyshire.  Caterpillars are trying to find "resting places" in my shed.

Thanks for that Kristen - mine are covered with debris netting currently - I will follow suit :-)

Here is your answer. Fortunately not on my tomatoes. Taken on Sunday in Manchester whilst helping to rescue crop from the little blighters. Actually not so little - plump and well fed.
