Red Mite success for DE slurry
« on: September 02, 2013, 20:15 »
I discovered red mite in my wooden coop in Spring 2009 - 6 months after buying my first hens. I used various products that kept it manageable but I always seemed to find a few. In the Spring of 2012 I decided to make and use the DE slurry recommended on here.

I mixed 2 parts DE to 1 part horse louse powder with diluted Poultry Shield and washing up liquid and painted the complete inside of the coop and the removable perches. I do dust the perches with fresh powder every 4 weeks or so and look for the little clumps of red mites. I have not found any sign of them so have repainted with slurry. I am so pleased this has worked and would recommend this to anyone.
