Pumpkin & cucumber
« on: September 02, 2013, 11:25 »
Hello. I`ll put a couple of photo`s bellow.

My question is : Is this a big problem and would the pumpkin be happier outside. ?
I don`t want to move the cucumber unless I really have to because they`re growing through eachother.
Is this just a ventilation problem.?

                                       Thank you in advance Mick

It's powdery mildew, possibly with a hint of downy mildew thrown in for good measure.  :(

A combination of humid growing conditions and dry soil can lead to powdery mildew (which can withstand dryer conditions than some other fungi) whereas high moisture levels overall favours downy mildew.

Can't win either way? Well, sort of - cucurbits are very susceptible to both types but are better outside if possible because the air circulation is likely to be better, although the cucumber probably won't take kindly to being moved outdoors at this time of year. Try not to wet the leaves when watering, although obviously you can't do anything about it if it rains!

In my experience it's very rare not to have seen one or the other on cucurbits by this time of year.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
