Festival ? The only appointment I have in my almanac is the Winter Solstice celebration... no mention of any festival. A rather large bonfire and much merriment on high ground sort of counts I guess, but I try not to think about it while the sun is still doing it's thing.

Thats my one - Yule TUT TUTI don't normally mention it before November though.

But since sparky brought the subject of Yule/ festival/winterval - I'd also like to grow potatoes for it as well.

For anyone that doesn't already know - It's a forum rule (joke) that the words commonly used for the Midwinter festival  are not allowed until much nearer the time, and will be edited out of posts.

At our local garden centre they have a sign outside advertising 'winter planting potatoes'. Haven't found time though to go in and find out what they are.  (The Co-op at the end of our road have a whole shelf full of chocolates and biscuits for 'that time of the year')!
