Cucamelon harvesting
« on: August 20, 2013, 16:43 »
Actually got loads of these now, but gurgling for advice has burnt my brain cells out without answering anything

Tried one today - size of large black grape and still quite firm.  Get the cucumber and citrus flavour, but the skin seems a bit chewy.  Left them too long, not long enough

Also, are they better at this stage and pickled, which seems to be the only recipe recommened, or do they mature to something else.  Again gurgle offers  multiple options of advice   complete confusion

I've tried a couple while quite small (about 1cm long) - like the flavour and did not notice any toughness of the skin, so maybe size matters! Will see how mine develop as/if they get larger.

New Shoot as your are a pace ahead of mine I was hoping you would know what to do with them

I was thinking of cutting them into longways quarters and adding them to salad

But you gave the seeds to me, remember

I'm not so sure about them raw, but I will give the pickles a try unless someone suggests a better use.

Just looked a bit like a jar of green eyeballs in the picture

You could always make soup

or put them in stir fry  ;) :D

Green eyeballs floating in a bowl of soup   :nowink:

Tried a smaller one today and they taste the same as the bigger ones.  Maybe green eyeball stir-fry is the way forward   On second thoughts, will cut them up before they go in the wok  ;)
