does size matter sprouts that is?

My brussels are just starting to form on the larger plants are they too late my neighbours look much bigger?

I don't care when as long as its sometime during the winter.

No need to worry then 

It's easy to get reasonable sized sprouts whenever the variety matures. The difficult bit is to consistently get them to remain tight and not blow. Small, but tight , is a good start.

Firm Ground should = firm sprouts
