Slightly large french beans

Slightly large french beans

I've not picked them for a while and they're on the rather large / thick side - is there anything I can do with them ? I have a feeling they might be stringy / hard, can they be pureed or something ?

I eat them and freeze them even when they're quite bumpy - they don't seem to get as horrid as large runner beans do.

Try a few  ;)

I'd have a munch on one Lardman if you want to check.  Even the ones I 'missed' last year weren't at all stringy and made their way to the freezer.  :)

I had complaints about the last lot I picked being like plastic   :mad: and these are considerably bigger. I'll boil a few up in a bit to try - I did snap a couple when picking any they weren't stringy at all.

Trying to dispose of the 5Kgs of courgette I've just picked first though  :ohmy:

I usually save the larger ones I have missed and either dehydrate or freeze them.  When I have a few, I make a slowcooker tomato sauce and chuck them in.   Makes a really tasty veg dish - good with mashed spuds  :)

Dare say a few lumps of cow or pig would make it a proper Lardman dinner  ;)  :D

I put them through the runner bean slicer which also gets rid of any stringy bits.

I cooked some overgrown dwarf beans the other day. Blimey they were so fibrous it was like eating cotton wool. I thought it must be good fibre so I ate them anyway  :tongue2:

 I think that just about sums things ups.  Surprisingly string-less, and tasted fine but they were a little chewy.

Or sheep or deer or rabbit or chicken or turkey or .. well anything really.  :tongue2:

I think I will boil some and puree them just to see how they turn out.
