What about digging nettles in as a green compost. Surely it should part with the same nutrients?

I hope so, have loads on my plot.  Tried making liquid feed (recommended by Monty Don) but the smell was so bad.

Mine (comfrey) is in a 200 lt water butt and has a lid so no smell till I use it. I then douse with clean water to bury the smell!!

The only problem I could see with that is it is a perennial that grows from its roots so you might end up with it everywhere.

Very high in nitrogen because of it deep rooting its like comfrey in that it brings a lot of nutrients from deep within the soil...

Very good for compost but I avoid putting the roots in where I can

I often use chopped up comfrey as a mulch around tomatoes, squash etc, it seems to have all the benefits without the terrible pong. Haven't tried it with nettles but if I did I would avoid the roots and the seeds (which is difficult at this time of year)

It's ment to be a very good nitrogen fix for no dig straw beds. but you have to make sure you don't use the bottom of the stem where roots can start to grow
