Don't suppose you were in such a hurry to buy and plant them that you didn't pay close attention to what you got?  I've done that with leeks thinking I'd planted onions.

Nah, all bagged up in individual bags and then chitted in egg boxes all written out in magic marker but a PF seed potato looks like a PF and you can't mistake it for a kestrel or a King Edward can you lol plus like I said I only bought enough for 1 row (9 seed potatoes)

So the question is can cross pollination take place in potato land ?

I am hedging towards yes as the proof is in the potato shown  :)

Don't get me wrong I am not overly bothered as they are a lovely potato, just intrigued.

Yes but it would be cross pollination of the flowers not the tubers  ;)

My link above explains what has happened, I think.

That is interesting and more than likely the answer,  but mine look to have the colour of PF's and are knobbly, plus they got a good watering during the dry sunny spell.

Thanks for having a good search for the solution for me  :)

If you have some of your original pink firs left you can do a blind taste test to see if you have knobbly kestrels or miraculously grown extra pink fir.....

So I plant 9 seed potatoes and have ended up with at least 6 rows of PF's, just very odd.

As you said, seed PFA pots are quite distinct so no mix up with other varieties of pots when bought or planted as you would have noticed it. Nine seed pots do not six rows of PFAs make! Anyone playing a joke on you?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Maybe the potato fairy  :D :D

Boiled some and they tasted like PF's.

Ah well it remains a mystery it seems, not fussed they tasted great, just got a lot more tatties to eat than planned on, the kestrels were for chipping/roasting really.

 :)

I think a small rounded seed PFA could look surprisingly like a Kestrel and one or more of the bags you bought as Kestrel was PFA.
