I sowed my swedes (Virtue) on 2 May. I am surprised at the whopping great size of them  :D

I hacked it off with a big knife while I was down the garden to try and alleviate mess at the sink.  They should be twisted off but they'll be fine.

Do you not eat the leaves in a salad like a lettuce leaf, they are really nice in a mixed leaf salad.

Cook in the microwave. 10 mins for big ones(large cricket ball size) check for softness. Few more minutes if required

Thanks for that.  Some of mine are very big.
This is the first time I have grown Beetroots, well most things for that matter. :)  My wife doesn't like beetroot, only pickled, so planted a few to do that.  However, I pulled a tennis ball sized root t'other day and wondered what to do.  I peeled it, cut it into quarters, sprinkled a little sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil and roasted.  blooming lovely :) :)  Going to be planting a lot more next year.

I roasted the big beets. Roasted beetroot is fantastic  :tongue2:  You can saute in butter too!

I do eat the leaves when they are very small. I don't bother with the big leaves.  I picked some small leaves today and these will go in tomorrow's pakora as a substitute for spinach

Big uns end up boiled, bagged and frozen for borscht in the winter months.

Never had a woody soup yet  ;)
