I brought some seeds back in the spring which were supposed to be golden courgette.....  Needless to say by the picture they are a sort of squash but I don't know what sort? Or at what point I should harvest it?

you do get varieties of round courgettes. there is a yellow one called Summer Ball, and some green varieties too. You can treat them as courgettes or pumpkins! they are related after all!
