Can you eat the orange fruits of normal Passion flower?

We have one in our garden and its starting to form greenish fruit at the moment (that turn orange according to garden catalogue.

I thought the fruits were normally dark purple?

I think you can, I have tried it with no ill effects, not tasty though and I wouldn't bother again!

The hardy variety with the orange coloured fruits is Passiflora incarnata. The one we usually buy as the purple passion fruit comes from P edulis, which is a tender perennial.
