3 Defenders and 2 Di Nizza, and there's only me to feed (used to have neighbours but they appear to have moved out!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

From my three plants I have had precisely seven courgettes so far  :( :(

Goodness knows why they just seem to grow mostly male flowers up until now

I have 4 healthy looking plants and not one courgette :( lots of male flowers, lots of female baby courgettes and flower buds that never seem to open... I wonder if the yellow ones are slightly fussier than normal ones and they don't like something about where they are?!

I love courgettes as well....  Think I will have to look into self pollinating ones for next year

Courgette and Dolcellate Soup
Use Gorgonzola for a more pronounced taste!    Serves 4

2 tbspns olive oil
1 tbspn butter
1 med onion, roughly chopped
900 g (2 lbs) Courgettes, topped and tailed, and evenly sliced (about the thickness of a pound coin) LEAVE SKIN ON!
115 g Dolcellate or Gorgonzola
1 tspn dried oregano
1 pint veg stock
½ pt single cream (I used low fat crème fraiche)
salt and black pepper

Heat butter and oil in a large pan, over a medium heat, until foaming. Add chopped onion and fry gently for 5 mins, stirring frequently. The onion should be softened but do not allow to brown.

Add the sliced courgettes and oregano, salt and pepper to taste.  You don’t need much salt as the cheese is salty!!!!  I used a scant teaspoon. Cook over med heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, for 10 minutes.  Pour in the stock, bring to boil. Lower heat, half cover pan, and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 30 mins
Add the cheese and stir until it’s melted
Process the soup using a blender.  Press through a sieve into a clean pan.  (I skipped the sieve bit!)
Add two thirds of the cream and stir over a low heat. Don’t allow it to boil!
Pour into preheated bowls and swirl on the remaining cream.  If you have any cheese and oregano left over just sprinkle a bit over.

Thank you Compost Queen, I must make more room in the freezer for even more soup!  But I must admit that I love soup from our homegrown vegetables for lunch.  I made parsnip soup for the first time this year and I don't like parsnips but the soup was (and there is still more in the freezer) gorgeous.

can recommend this recipe from my friend Stuart - especially for the spice lovers...  :tongue2:

Courgette Pakora - 2 courgettes grated
1 red onion finely sliced
1 to 2 red chillies - depending on your taste
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 egg
salt & pepper
self raising flour
Mix all the ingredients together adding enough flour to make a thick paste (100 - 150 grams), fry a tablespoon full until deep brown on both sides and serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce. Should make about 8 Pakora and take about 15 minutes from start to finish.

Slightly off topic but my husband went shopping and bought (as in paid for) potatoes, tomatoes and eggs, all of which we are growing or get for free .... We really must talk more! I was speechless, especially when he hadnt actually bought anything for dinner .....  is there an 'I give up' smiley?!
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

The BBC Good Food site has a recipe that uses two medium courgettes - CHOCOLATE COURGETTE CAKE - not tried it yet but keeping it in mind!

I've done Chocolate courgette cake and find it to 'wet' for my liking - I like the courgette muffins better, both recipes were got of this site in the recipes section.  Just one thing peel the courgettes first - people tend to find it strange to find green peel in muffins  :).  My courgettes are only just beginning to produce but they were planted late - I've planted 4 but have seen row upon row on some other plots
