Could be cherry. I don't think it is apple or pear.

I have to admit Cherry was another of my thoughts but the leaves don't have a serrated edge.

It's all very confusing as since October last year it has produced nothing but leaves. IIRC the leaves didn't drop either over the winter.

An evergreen probably rules out most if not all uk fruit trees. Maybe it is a bay after all.

my mistake..... it's definitely not a tree. Just found a picture on my phone of the said area it's in from Oct/Nov last year and there's no sign of it. It's now at least 10 foot high and very bushy.

Remains confused.....
