hi all well ive got my allotment cleared of all rubbish apart from the glass (its everywhere) ive been picking it up as i see it but have now found loads and loads of the stuff do i have to pick it all up or can it be left ive been down this morning and picked two dustbins full of glass and my poor back feels like it belongs to 90 year old i can hardly walk   i think i know what the replys will be but just thought id ask any way

Not the best of things to have in the plot. Thing is you're always going to have to be careful, you'll never find it all. There was a small amount of my plot when I took it on about 5 years ago - I'm still finding the odd bit.

If your's was covered - oh dear. Sympathies.

Did you get any photos of the new hens yet?

i had a similar problem with the 'compost heap', glass heap more like, enough glass for 2 greenhouses all mixed in, cleared about a dozen bin liner size bags from it to get rid of all the glass, metal, clothes etc etc, anything but compost.  Just about all cleared now and waiting for me to build my compost bins x3 from pallets.

 yes i have some photos of the hens and cockerel but dont know how to post them going to try again now !!!! :roll:

Yep,

same problem here too,

took on a plot a few weeks ago and so far i've filled an old wheelbarrow
an old water tank five plastic sand bags, how come this much glass gets
on a plot ?

I too have lots of glass on my plot, mostly around my greenhouse but it is proving a nightmare to clear. It also keeps slitting the bin bags I am filling full of bindweed roots.

Grannie, i am liking those, excellent job.  Like the way you have extended the height.  Seeing the pics has prompted a question, with the openings between the slats does the heap get warm enough?  Do you think i should try and cover the gaps with wood or not, i cannot decide what is best, obviously not covering them is easiest. Thoughts?

Grannie, your pic enthused me to get on with it so i made 2 bins today from pallets, got to pick up some more for a third bin as one will be taken up with manure for a year or so.  Have to say mine do not look as expertly put together as yours but they will do the job. I nailed a couple of old fence panels i had to the back where the wind blows to try and stop it cooling the heaps too much, otherwise left the pallet gaps as they come.
