 :wacko:why are my raspberries so sour , they were inherited from a previous house owner , they produce but even  when left on to last minute, not pleasent , sick of seeing people on telly popping them in their mouth like they were sweeties I want to do that .

Never had this problem so cant really advise, do you know the variety, would they be suitable as jam

It could be the variety itself.

But it could also be that it needs yearly manuring and regular watering, especially once the flowers are pollinated. People don't equate raspberries with needing water but it's very important for them at that point - lots and often.

don't think it would be water here in the north east we get our fair share , I was thinking of pulling the lot out and giving it aa god old dig over , they are in a narrow strip and its not easy to look after .
 any ideas on the best types for planting

For new ones I would suggest the Autumn fruiting varieties, their yield is fairly good but mainly they are easy to look after. You let them grow in the spring, fruit in the summer/autumn and cut them down in the winter.  No having to distinguish this years growth from last years growth then removing anything older.

Wish I could recall the variety names for you.

I find raspberries high maintenance. They seem to need feeding twice a season and watering rather a lot (and that's an understatement) in dry weather.
