mange tout advice
« on: July 20, 2013, 10:41 »

I didn't realise I would have so many mange tout per plant.  ive frozen loads but wondered if the ones left on the plants can be harvested as peas?

I've started to leave mine to grow now and they seem just as nice as the ordinary peas, raw that is, I haven't tried cooking any yet.  (Not many of them make it to the pan) ::)

You can leave them on the plant even longer and have next year's seed at no cost!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I was given some mangetout seed that someone else had saved last year and I have left a few pods to swell.

Would these still be good to save for seed for next year, or do you think it might potentially be to worn out to produce a good enough crop??

where are you, shed head? I could let my newly-three year old granddaughter at them. She'd  clear the plants in no time. She ate most of mine raw this afternoon

Hi

I blanched for a minute in boiling water, run them under cold water then froze them.

"Snodland" as in Shed Head's profile, may sound made up, but it's actually where he is!

Bit far from where you are, though.
