My old goat shed that will now be the chooks home has a large run.2 x 8ft fences 1x6ft fence and a 5ft. It 8x20ish ft would you try and put some kind of roof mesh on or leave it open? Thanks for your suggestions

Before we put a roof on our walk in run we put scaffolding netting over which gave a bit of shade without blocking the sun out totally.  You can join lengths/widths with cable ties in the holes it already has.  I think if a fox tried to chew through it would get stuck in its throat and teeth.  It helps stop young birds flying out and not being able to get back in as well.

we have half covered ours, to provide shade and shelter to good and bad weather, although our girls free range during the day in winter it was getting very wet and its too hot for the girls now without any shade!

We have put chicken wire over the top and then just the roll of asphalt, roofing roll??

Or use electric fencing outside your fencing - ensuring it does not touch our fencing or the chage will be drained. There are lots of ways to provide shade/shelter. :)

One problem we had with overhead netting was that wild birds could get in but not out. The hens didn't mind the sparrows but attacked a crow which had to be rescued before they killed it.

The scaffolding netting is really close weaved so you don't have that problem.  You do get flying insects trying to get out though.   ::)
