Drinkable or not.
« on: July 17, 2013, 15:53 »
Would you drink it.

I'm not really a spirits drinker but I made this at least 6years ago when I had a lot of raspberries, its raspberry vodka. The idea was to add it to white or sparkling wine or even lemonade. I keep moving it about from shelf to shelf.

Its fairly clear and smells a bit like a fruity sherry, do you think its safe to drink or shall I just ditch it.

I've never made any or have ever drunk vodka(do drink lots of other stuff though )but i would have thought it would be fine. Have you tasted it? I take it it was a sterile jar when made & not opened until now?

I thought that alcohol of itself was a sterilizing product?  Isn't that why they use alcohol based hand wash in hospital and alcohol wipes in first aid kit type things. I also thought that is why when I decorate cakes I rub the marzipan with alcohol before covering with sugar paste. Alcohol is also used to preserve fruit, so I can't imagine that there could be anything very wrong with your vodka. I think if it could go off that the worst it would do is smell like ancient wine and you would soon know that you wouldn't want to drink it - as soon as you took the lid off! :)

Vodka is the basis for many long term storage items like liquid vanilla (extract). The seal just keeps it from evaporating and will be fine to drink.

Well I'm not a big drinker of alcohol so that may be why after two glasses I needed a little lie down.  8)
