Aldi mystery mini cuke
« on: July 14, 2013, 09:11 »
Did any one else buy one of these? The plant appeared to be great value, in fine fettle. Put it in the GH and the central shoot just gave up the ghost. Since then, it has stayed compact and sprouted lots of side shoots and looks very healthy. The problem is that the fruits start to form, get to about an inch long, and then refuse to get any bigger. There are also a lot of male flowers (which were not given a mention on the idiot guide that came with the plant). Any observations?

The saga of the mystery cuke
Still no-one with any ideas as to the identity of the mystery ALDI mini cuke?

Mines tearing away at a rate of knots now, producing lots of cukes and also lots of male flowers. It's staying relatively compact height wise, but it's still growing, (as it said on the tin), and puting a good deal of side growth on (without going crazy). The cukes look like they will be about 8" to 10" long. They start off really knobly, then get smoother as they develop. However, the do seem to stay knobly from about halfway down the cuke. From the description, does anyone have a clue as to what the variety could be?

Heres some pics if they help any.

If an all female variety gets stressed (too hot, to cold, too much water, not enough water - you get the picture  ) they will develop male flowers.  :)
