JayG was talking about stuff that you overwinter to get off to an early start. I wouldn't include spring cabbage in this as that's what you do as a matter of course!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Same with peas. Not worth the effort to get them a few weeks early, too many disastrous years compared with successes.

For the second year running my Eschalotte Gries shallots have produced lots of tiny bulbs, nothing like the catalogue picture.
I shall give Autumn shallots a miss this year.  The onions "First of All" are reasonable.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

I planted aristocrat at the start of jan, Vigarmor the end of jan, and Zebrune shallot from seed at he start of march.

The aristocrat are very expensive so I'll be saving them for replanting. They were harvested a couple of weeks ago and a bit on the small side.
The Vigarmor are ready for pulling now and look ok, not as big as last year but not bad.
The Zebrune are still growing strong and the tops look as big and strong as neighbouring onion plants. They may make it into the "grow every year" categorie.
