Multi purpose kitchen thingy
« on: July 13, 2013, 17:33 »
Id like to replace my elbow grease with a machine, but Im confused.

I mix pastry, pasta, bread dough by hand or the bread maker, batters with a hand crank egg beater and any creaming is done with a wooden spoon.  I have a stick blender(cheap just a blade) and a mini-chopper.

Can I get something that will do the lot in one machine, if so are they any good ?

Weve got an Oyster Regency Kitchen Center, we have had it for 30 years.  It does everything you describe.

I got one of these in the sales before we left and it has already earned it's keep. Every so often they update their look so sell the older models cheaper. Can't remember how much it cost but it has dough hook, K beater, silicone K beater, whisk and liquidiser attachment, plus recipe book. I make all my bread dough in it now, the breadmaker is redundant, and I have more control than when I used one. And the liquidiser is great, especially at the moment when we have buckets of tomatoes to process.

You've still got to attach the attachments, and then wash them, and then find some place to put them in the meantime. And the motor unit takes up space on the kitchen bench... >:(

I fit all mine into a kitchen cupboard.  The attachments are in a plastic box.

I had an old kenwood until it broke. I'm considering getting a new one, but Mr S likes the kitchen aid ones but they don't seem to have attachments but all the chefs seem to like them,I think they are very quiet,so I'm torn.

Which is niggling me too, you can hardly swing a cat in the kitchen as it is. I wouldn't want to buy something that was too much of a fiddle to actually use. I could upsize the mini-chopper but that would still leave problems whisking and creaming.

I don't have a lot of space but having bit the bullet and bought one I wouldn't be without it  :)

Am I looking at the right thing (KM336) at £200 that's a serious investment to burn a few cakes.
