Come Out Of Being Broody
« on: July 13, 2013, 10:39 »
Well Penny our Pekin bantam has finally pulled herself together and come out of being broody, last Monday. At long last. It only lasted 10 weeks  Is this a record?? I tried all the usual tricks to get her to snap out of it but all to no avail. She was not impressed with her bum being dunked in cold water but even that did not deter her. She had to be shut out of the henhouse so its a good job none of the others wanted to be in to lay. Even then she would just sit mournfully close to it waiting for a chance that I opened it up for her. Millie the other Pekin has laid her 1st egg in weeks and Penny has still yet to lay. she's not the greatest layer even though they are all only 2 years old. hopefully things will stay this way for a good while now

Fingers crossed she will be laying again soon and not go broody again.   :)

I have a silkie called Penny, she lays for 3 weeks, goes broody for 3 or 4 weeks then "recovers" for a few more weeks before laying and starting the cycle again. Must be something about hens called Penny.

You could be right magicaltoad! Aren't Silkies reknowned for being broody a lot though? Wasn't sure about Pekins
Yesterday she laid her first egg in months. Hooray!!!!!!!
Its nice to have all three of them back to something like normal. How long it will last I do not know
