Near miss with fox
« on: July 03, 2013, 20:59 »
Hi all,

Nearly lost our girls on Monday. We have had our old girls for 4 years and 3 weeks ago adopted 3 ex=batts which have just merged with the oldies. Feeling very pleased with ourselves how things have gone quite smoothly.

Lo and behold husband let them out and had just returned to bed when we heard an almighty row outside, he ran outside and found fox in run!! The fox was holding Daisy down but ran off at the sight of OH (mind you what a sight in his dressing gown and boots!)

Just writing this post to remind you all of the ever present danger. We have an electric fence but on close inspection there was one wire that had broken and he got through this -  I would not have thought this possible as hole was so small.

Luckily none of the hens were killed but poor Daisy has a broken wing. We are binding it every evening but can anybody let me know approximately how long it takes to heal?

Chicken keepers everywhere please remain vigilant!! I have learnt - NEVER GET COMPLACENT.

Maria
