Watering through fleece
« on: July 02, 2013, 11:40 »
Hi

When you use a fleece to cover your crop do you water the crop with the fleece still on? Or do you take it off to water?

Thanks

Depends on whats under it. For seed beds which I fleece in dry weather to keep a bit of moisture in, I just water through it where the rows are.

Larger stuff gets more individual treatment and I remove the fleece so I can get past the foilage and water rows or plants at soil level.

If you are on a tight water budget, then you really want to lose the minimum to evaporation from the foilage and fleece itself.

Of course if it`s raining, you leave the fleece on, and it theoretically shouldn`t matter.

I water through the fleece. It's  pointless using a rose as you will only wet the fabric which then evaporates away leaving you plant bone dry.  Same applies to rain. It doesn't go through

Take the rose of and blast the water through.  Or if you are on a slope, just water along the edge of the fleece on the uphill side, so that it runs under the edge to your plants.
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.
